Launching HyperLink

Opening Screen

The first time you launch HyperLink, the Molten Mango video will play for approximately 8 seconds. This will only happen the first time you launch the app.

The next screen you’ll see will ask you to ‘Enter your passcode’ which can be any set of ASCII characters you’d like to use for data protection. HyperLink provides an encrypted iOS Data Protection API level of security. Enter your Hyperlink Passcode** here:

The following screen will ask you to ‘Re-enter your passcode’ for verification:

After setting your Hyperlink’s Passcode, you will then be asked to ‘Log In and Connect’.

To log in and connect you will need to enter your Remote Login and OS X password in the following order:

  1. Remote Login Host/IP address when on the same network
  2. Remote Login user name
  3. Mac password

If you have any difficulty connecting, please go back though the steps in Getting Started and check your Host/IP address, user name and password are correct.

** Please make a note of your iPad’s Passcode. There is no ‘reset passcode’ option and if you do forget it, you will have to first delete and then reinstall the app, which will mean loosing your indexed data and enduring a new initial indexing procedure.

During multi-tasking you can suspend HyperLink and use another app. To protect your information, HyperLink will present this window when opening the app again for you to enter your iPad’s HyperLink Passcode

The first data view you’ll see

The first (default) data view (a window to view your data files) seen shows the files in your Mac’s ‘Documents’ folder for your active account.

First-Screen-View

From this starting point you can view any of the ‘places’ in the Side Bar or use the Tool Bar at the bottom of your screen to view, arrange or choose an action for a selected file.

However, you must initiate a first time indexing between your iPad and your Mac for your data to be current. You can refresh any location by ‘pulling down’ on the Viewing Pane

Note: There will be a small delay while the update is occurring, depending on the size of the hard drive, storage media and volume of content. By default, HyperLink does not index your mail attachments during the first indexing. Mail attachments can be indexed by pressing the Attachments Button under the MAIL Heading.

To perform the first time, and subsequent incremental indexing, touch the Settings Button, and in the Settings menu and touch ‘Index Now’:

Setting Sub Menu

HyperLink generates an indexed file – a snapshot of your Mac’s environment – to make searching possible. On- and Offline searches are only possible with this indexed file.

The HyperLink Index file is very small in comparison with the size of your Mac’s environment (internal boot drive as well as all connected storage media). You can check the size of the index file in the iPad’s Settings App, under the General Menu > Usage.

Usage2

HyperLink will display this screen advice during the first indexing process:

First-Sync-Notice

As stated before HyperLink does not index your Mail Attachments during the first indexing. Mail Attachments can be indexed by pressing the Attachments Button under the MAIL Heading.

Note: This may take a while so have your iPad conected to its power supply.

To perform the first time, and subsequent incremental indexing, touch the Settings Button, and in the Settings menu and touch ‘Index Now’. There is no automatic Indexing or Syncing in this version of HyperLink.

Indexing and Accessing Mail Attachments

To perform a first time indexing of your Mac’s mail attachments, touch the Attachments Button under the MAIL Heading:

Attachments2 copy

The first time indexing of your email Attachments will take a long time depending on the volume of files in your Mail Attachments folder on your Mac. HyperLink will give you this tongue in cheek advice warning, however this process may be best performed overnight. We also advise you to have your iPad conected to its power supply.

You can stop the Attachments Indexing any time by closing the app, however, you will not be able to make searches of your Attachments folder until you complete this indexing process.

Changing Macs…

For now, HyperLink can only log in to one computer at a time, so if you want to change the computer HyperLink is logged into, you will need to go through the log-in process again with the log-in data associated with that computer. HyperLink will advise you the Mac’s name has been changed.
